Update on "Missy" the Mare After a show of excitement and a little dancing in the rain “Missy” was happy this morning to enjoy her breakfast in the dry barn stall at the ACSO Livestock Impound/”Foster” home for horses. Missy will be available for adoption soon just in time for Christmas. If you have room in your field and more importantly your heart, please consider giving Missy her forever home.

The ACSO Motor Unit participated in the 2017 Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona Motorcycle Skills Challenge in Ormond Beach, Florida. Sergeant Bobby Stafford, Deputy Jody Cail, Deputy James Yancy, Deputy Chris Privette, Deputy Tommy Steele, and Deputy Mikell McKoy were part of 93 riders from around the United States participating. Deputy Chris Privette placed 2nd in his rider class. Along with the competition side of this event, this is some of the best training for Police Motorcycle Officers.

On Monday, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Youth and Community Resource Unit cooked burgers and hotdogs in Cedar Ridge. They were also joined by a special guest who handed out presents to all the kids. The event was a huge success as we came together to fellowship with the community and play with the kids.

#ColdCase Cold Case Anniversary On 12-04-06, at approximately 1:00pm, James Edward Tuff was found lying on the edge of SE CR 2082, at about the 11000 block. Tuff was last seen alive at a residence in Lamplighter Mobile Home Park in Gainesville earlier that morning. Tuff was a lifelong resident of Gainesville. Today, Cub Scout pack 416 paid a visit to the Sheriff’s Office for a tour and meeting with Sheriff Darnell. They were treated to demo’s by our Latent Print Examiners, K-9 Deputies and got to see the whole Sheriff’s Office. It was a pleasure having them today and being able to interact with them and answer their questions.

On 11/18/17, Rural Services Deputy Perry Koon was called to assist Deputy David Thompson with a brown mare that was corralled in a yard in Windsor. Deputies took their time and were patient with the capture and loading of “Missy”. Missy is reported to have possibly been loose in the woods to the East of County Road 234 for maybe a month.
